About the Tunnel

Owned jointly by cities of Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan, the Tunnel is operated under two separate agreements. Windsor Detroit Borderlink Limited manages the Canadian side of the Tunnel and the Detroit side of the Tunnel is managed by Detroit Windsor Tunnel LLC.

The Detroit Windsor Tunnel continues to be a major border crossing and is a vital socio-economic pipeline between the United States and Canada. The Tunnel opens 24 hours a day, every day of the year and is the link between downtown Detroit and downtown Windsor where travellers can experience attractions and major events on both sides of the border. The Tunnel is also used by the many commuters that cross every day for employment. The Tunnel is approximately one mile from portal to portal and it gives travellers the opportunity to cross the Detroit River in 3 minutes.

The Detroit Windsor Tunnel continues to be the quickest way to cross and is considered clean, airy, dry and convenient.
