Take the tunnel, Windsor city councillor says as Ambassador Bridge owners lobby against new bridge

“Windsor City Councillor is encouraging travellers to use the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel when crossing into the United States. Councillor Angelo Marignani noted that the City of Windsor co-owns the Tunnel and benefits financially through dividends, meaning residents gain when it is used. In contrast, the Ambassador Bridge is privately owned by an American billionaire, and revenue does not directly support the local community.
Marignani emphasized that choosing the tunnel is a way to “buy local” and support Windsor residents, though he stopped short of calling for a boycott of the bridge. His comments come amid reports of lobbying efforts tied to the proposed Gordie Howe International Bridge.
Tunnel CEO Tal Czudner also promoted the crossing, highlighting its lower cost and continued capacity despite reduced traffic since the early 2000s. He explained that revenues from tolls help fund the city’s budget, making the tunnel a more community-focused option. Both officials stressed that using the tunnel is a practical and beneficial choice for travellers heading to Detroit.”
