$35,000 in U.S. cash seized at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel

June 15, 2026
“Border officials at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel seized $35,000 in U.S. cash from a U.S. citizen who allegedly failed to declare it while crossing the border. Authorities suspected the money could be proceeds of crime.
The CBSA reminds travellers that any currency or monetary instruments valued at $10,000 CAD or more must be declared when entering or leaving Canada. While carrying large sums of money is not illegal, failure to declare it can result in seizure, and funds linked to criminal or terrorist activity may not be returned.”
